Scope
NAMI-DE has been developing a
continuum of permanent affordable housing since 1987 for persons
who have a chronic mental illness. This housing consists of
three and four bedroom scattered site neighborhood homes, one
and two bedroom apartment units and several 24 hour supervised
group homes.
With the exception of the group homes, persons
living in the properties have their own private bedroom and
share the common areas of the house or apartment with others.
Each resident pays 30% of their adjusted gross income for rent
and utility costs. Each person is responsible for keeping their
own room orderly and all residents are responsible for keeping
the common areas orderly. Residents of the supervised group
homes live with six or seven other residents.
These homes are
licensed by the state and managed by the staff of a service
provider who has a contract with the state Division of Substance
Abuse and Mental Health.
